Background information: Originally this film was released on on VHS in the UK in 1983 and we shoot again in 1986. The VHS was also issued and re-issued in America as well by two different companies in 1983. In addition there was a VHD video disc made of this film. Finally the LaserDisc was released later that same year in only three countries: the UK Japan and the USA. This exclusive remaster to DVD comes from the original USA LaserDisc that was sealed until now. This release of this film again is from 1983 culminating in a 40 year wait to finally have this unique perspective of the new Romantic band ABC film remastered to DVD for the very first time!

Some audiophiles and sound purists argue that unless the remastering process includes completely “lossless” compression of audio that no matter how it may be converted/processed, it still is compressed audio thus producing some say a more audibly muddled sound. This is due to the lessening of the dynamic range between the loudest and quietest parts of the audio signal thus producing some distortion and a clipping audio effect. The DVD offered here is sourced from the LaserDisc from 1986. Because of the large 12 inch size of the LaserDisc format it can easily support the amount of physical space required to successfully playback large uncompressed sound and in this case even digitally remastered in uncompressed form. This Remastered DVD features the original completely uncompressed digitally remastered audio recording allowing the original true recorded mix to come alive as it was originally intended to be heard in optimum sound quality. This original mix featured with completely uncompressed audio is exclusively preserved here and available in it’s original intended state of production for the very first time on DVD.
Description: Directed by Julien Temple (David Bowie & The Cure) this film showcases the British pop group ABC who portray themselves well in Mantrap, and their performances alone are worth the trouble and effort to own. ABC’s music still beats a lot of contemporary artists’ work and many find it timeless. Mantrap is a wonderful capture of the music of the era and definitely worth seeing!, Martin Fry and ABC were early MTV front runners in the second British Invasion of the early 1980’s. Their album “The Lexicon of Love” was hailed as the greatest album ever in some U.K. music publications. They stormed Europe in their niche which was new wave dance. The style was dignified, classy disco. This work was produced by the Buggles very own Trevor Horn whom also produced Yes’ 90125, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and Seal to name a few.
The film shot in England, France and Austria uses songs from their album “The Lexicon of Love” to tell a spy-caper story of how the unsuspecting lead singer, Martin Fry, is duped into fronting the band because of his striking resemblance to another man associated with espionage.
