Description

Originally filmed as an HBO television concert special and subsequently released only on the long-since discontinued formats of CED SelectaVision, VHS and LaserDisc, this rare Dolly Parton programme was issued on LaserDisc in only two documented countries: the United States and Japan. This particular television special has NEVER received a documented official DVD or Blu-ray release until NOW!

This REMASTERED DVD is sourced directly from the original high-quality 1984 U.S. NTSC STEREO LaserDisc and transferred to Region-Free DVD. The original LaserDisc was released 42 years ago and preserves a concert filmed at London’s Dominion Theatre on March 29, 1983—43 years ago. The programme then premiered on HBO in the United States on June 19, 1983. It remains the highest-quality documented-video source for this vintage Dolly Parton television production.

Background Information: Dolly in London, also identified as Dolly in Concert, was filmed at the Dominion Theatre in London, England, United Kingdom, on March 29, 1983. The performance was recorded for an HBO television special and premiered in the United States on June 19, 1983.

The documented home-video history began later in 1983 with CED SelectaVision editions in both the United Kingdom and the United States. In 1984, the programme was released on U.S. NTSC LaserDisc and on PAL VHS in Spain. It was subsequently issued on Japanese NTSC LaserDisc and U.S. NTSC VHS in 1985. Seven original video release entries are presently documented: a 1983 UK CED SelectaVision edition; a 1983 U.S. CED SelectaVision edition; two separately listed 1984 U.S. LaserDisc editions; a 1984 Spanish PAL VHS edition; a 1985 Japanese NTSC LaserDisc edition; and a 1985 U.S. NTSC VHS edition. Only the United States and Japan are presently documented as having received LaserDisc editions.

No official DVD or Blu-ray edition of this 1983 concert had previously been released.

It should not be confused with Dolly Parton: Live From London, the separate 2008 O2 Arena concert issued on DVD and Blu-ray in 2009. All these original video editions have long since been discontinued.

Description: Filmed before a London audience at the Dominion Theatre, Dolly in London captures Dolly Parton in a full-length 1983 concert performance at the height of her crossover success. The programme combines live performances of her best-known hits with the warmth, humour and audience interaction that made her one of country music’s most distinctive live entertainers.

The concert includes such Dolly Parton favourites as “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” “Here You Come Again,” “9 to 5,” “I Will Always Love You” and “Baby I’m Burnin’,” alongside “Applejack,” “Down from Dover,” “Two Doors Down,” “Great Balls of Fire” and her memorable Elvis Presley-inspired performance of “All Shook Up.”

Created for HBO, the production also captures Dolly’s affection for London and presents a rare early-1980s concert document that remained confined to discontinued analog home-video formats for more than four decades.

A lively and revealing vintage performance, Dolly in London preserves a major Dolly Parton concert special that has never previously been officially available on DVD or Blu-ray.

Please Note: This programme is also known as Dolly in Concert. It was filmed at the Dominion Theatre in London, England, on March 29, 1983, and originally premiered on HBO in the United States on June 19, 1983. It is not connected to the later 2008 concert release Dolly Parton: Live From London.
