Background: This concert was first released on VHS in Europe, US and JAPAN in 1985 and a year later in the UK and Argenetina. The ONLY LaserDisc of this classic concert was exclusively released in Japan in 1985 and a re-issue in 1989. The NTSC LaserDisc release from Japan in 1989 is where this REMASTERED DVD comes from. Even now the LaserDisc of this concert is only available USED and it’s offered for sale for as much as $50.00 on websites as verified at the time of this description.
Description: This historic concert was filmed at Madison Square Garden in New York City on August 30, 1972. Although the performance was recorded in 1972, post-production was not completed until November 1985 as a Sekhmet Production in association with Ono Video, directed by Carol Dysinger. The completed concert film was then released worldwide on VHS and the rare Japanese LaserDisc.
This REMASTERED DVD has been transferred directly from the rare Japanese NTSC LaserDisc, preserving the original 1972 concert presentation that was initially released in 1985. While selected performances from this historic concert have appeared on later official DVD releases, the complete original concert program, as presented on the 1985 VHS and LaserDisc editions, has never been officially released on DVD in this form until now.
Now, for the first time, collectors can enjoy this complete presentation on DVD, making it an essential addition to the library of every John Lennon and Beatles fan.
