Later in the program Lady Gaga accepts award for “Song Of The Year” Award for “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande. Gaga then performed a medley of songs off her Chromatica, including “911,” “Rain on Me,” and “Stupid Love.” It was her first Video Music Awards performance since 2013, and instantly one for the books. She performed on an unmistakably Chromatica-era stage, flanked by masked dancers and wearing robotic light-up masks herself — to complement her three separate lewks, of course. That promised Ariana Grande linkup washed our worries away during “Rain on Me,” before Gaga reemerged to belt out a ballad version “Stupid Love,” playing a brain piano, as only she could. She cut the performance for a quick bit of inspiration, telling viewers, “I want you to love yourself I want it all Night every day.” Celebrate yourself. Love who you are. Be kind, mask up, be brave and braver all the time.” Then she shouted, “make it stupid!,” the beat kicked in, and we were wiping our tears away and dancing in our living rooms. Shortly afterward, Lady Gaga was back on stage accepting the Moonperson for “Artist of the Year”. She also accepted the first ever “MTV Tricon Award” from Bella Hadid later in the night and include all acceptance speeches.
- CBS Sunday Morning 09/20/20: Opening and in-depth interview and profile with Lady Gaga.In the interview, Gaga opened up about her latest music, mental illness, her thoughts of suicide, and working with Ariana Grande. The interview follows the recent release of Lady Gaga’s new album, “Chromatica,” her sixth consecutive #1 album, which is filled with personal songs, some of them with dark lyrics. The singer-songwriter said all of the songs are based on real-life events. “I mean, honestly, Lee, I just totally gave up on myself,” she said. “I hated being famous. I hated being a star. I felt exhausted and used up. “Gaga also showed Cowan the piano she used to write many of the songs, and comments that in some ways it ruined her life. “This ruined my life,” she said. “Look what you did. You can’t go to the grocery store now. Look what you did. If you go to dinner with your family, somebody comes to the table. You can’t have dinner with your family without it being about you. It’s always about you. All the time it’s about you.”
