Description
Released exclusively on the long since discontinued and deleted formats of VHS and LaserDisc in 1981. This classic concert was finally remastered and exclusively released in only two countries Japan and USA on LaserDisc. This particular recording of this concert has NEVER been released on DVD until NOW!
This REMASTERED DVD is sourced directly from the original high quality LaserDisc to DVD for the first time ever! Quality is unmatched as it transferred from the long since deleted LaserDisc from OVER FORTY ONE years ago.
Background information: This concert was recorded and originally released as a VHS video and a LaserDisc under this title. This is a known rare concert due to the quality of the performances of classic Simon songs as well as now-rare live recordings of songs from One-Trick Pony (Motion Picture Soundtrack).
In November 2003, the recording was released on DVD with the title “Live at the Tower Theatre”. The original recording was reproduced in surround sound. It was subsequently released again in 2008 under the title “Live from Philadelphia” (on some versions with the additional wording “Greatest Hits Live”). In both of these releases in 2003 and 2009 the audio while being converted to surround sound was also compressed.
Some audiophiles and sound purists argue that unless the remastering process includes completely “lossless” compression of audio that no matter how it may be converted/processed to surround sound or better, it still is compressed audio thus producing some say a more audibly muddled sound. This is due to the lessening of the dynamic range between the loudest and quietest parts of the audio signal thus producing some distortion and a clipping audio effect. The DVD offered here is from the original LaserDisc released back in 1981. Because of the large 12 inch size of the LaserDisc format it can easily support the amount of physical space required to successfully playback large uncompressed sound. This Remastered DVD features the original completely uncompressed audio recording allowing the original true recorded mix to come alive as it was originally intended to be heard in optimum sound quality. This original mix featured with completely uncompressed audio is exclusively preserved here and available in it’s original intended state of production for the very first time on DVD.

Description: “Paul Simon in Concert” dates from October 7, 1980, when singer-songwriter Paul Simon performed a concert at the Tower Theater outside Philadelphia as part of his “One-Trick Pony” tour which played in Europe and the United States in support of the recently released film and album of the same name. Accompanying Simon on that tour and this concert (and also seen in the film) was a band of top U.S. backing musicians including Steve Gadd on drums, Tony Levin on bass, Richard Tee on keyboards and Eric Gale on lead electric guitar. Simon performs with an electric guitar for much of the concert, which features songs from his previous solo albums (plus “The Boxer” and “The Sound of Silence” from Simon and Garfunkel days), plus “Ace in the Hole”, “One-Trick Pony”, “Jonah” and “Late in the Evening” from One-Trick Pony (Motion Picture Soundtrack).
This vintage concert was recorded Live at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania USA on October 7, 1980.
